Godfrey's Children Center is home to 52 orphans between the ages of 4 and 16 and is located in a rural village in the Southern highlands of Tanzania. Our center cares for vulnerable children whose extended families do not have the means to care for them.
Godfrey's Children Center depends entirely on donations to survive. With this money we feed, clothe, educate and care for our children. We also offer many services to the community. We believe that every child has a right to live with a loving family. For this reason we are seeking ways to better support the extended families throughout the village in the hopes our children can be reintegrated into their homes.
Godfrey's Children Center values living and working closely with the village that is home to our children and collaborates with villagers to maintain a strong sense of community identity. Our model of caring for the children in their home village, rather than transplanting them to a distant urban center, is regarded as an incredible step forward. Additionally, most of our children return home to extended family members during weekends and holidays, and in this way remain rooted in the culture and values of their community instead of growing up isolated from these invaluable resources.
