Godfrey's Children Center was created through the collaboration three non-profit organizations as well as with critical input from the community of Idweli, Tanzania.
Godfrey's Children Organization, previously called Everyone's Child (EC), was
founded on the vision of the late Godfrey Msemwa, a medical student from Idweli. Godfrey was dedicated to assisting orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS. At the age of 25, while studying medicine in Dar Es Salaam, Godfrey tragically drowned. After Godfrey's death, Everyone's Child was renamed Godfrey's Children Organization in his honor, and a group of friends and family took over management to fulfill his vision.
In 2001, Godfrey's Children Organization contacted Africa Bridge, a non-profit organization from the United States, and with the help of the Lundy Foundation, also from the US, they developed a plan to assess the orphans and vulnerable
children in Idweli. The groups worked with children, villagers, and community leaders to define the needs of orphans and to develop a long-term wellness plan. After several years of planning and construction, and fundraising by Africa Bridge and the Lundy Foundation, Godfrey's Children
Center officially opened on June 8, 2005.
