Godfrey's Children Center

What We Do

Home- First and foremost, GCC is a safe place for these children to call home.  They receive three meals per day, clean clothes and school uniforms.  They also receive health care and an environment in which to thrive. The center has 4 live-in caretakers to provide for the children.  Like other Tanzanian homes, we raise cows and pigs to provide milk and income, and have a garden to grow our own food.

Education- Education is a priority at GCC, and all of our children are encouraged to excel.  It is our goal to provide everything from supplies and uniforms for primary school, to secondary school fees for the older children.  We also provide vocational skills education to older children who have not performed well in an academic setting.

Pre-School- During the days, while the older children are at school, we offer a bustling pre-school with over 70 toddlers who come from both the center and the village to play and learn.

Evening classes- During the evenings we continue our education with English and Math classes.  In keeping with our philosophy of a close relationship with the village, these classes are also open to anyone from the village who wishes to join.

Women's group- Once a week the center hosts a women's group to talk about issues such as health, family planning, HIV/AIDS, and mutual support.

Small medical dispensary- Part of providing a safe home for our children is providing them with good health care.  Within our center we have a small medical dispensary that can meet the needs our children face from day to day.

Host AIDS education events- As our community is vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, we see it as our responsibility to help support and educate our community members in order to fight this disease.  We also hope to guarantee a family for future children in our community.
